Contrary to popular opinions regarding Magento, dedicated hosting is not a requirement. Of course, the optimal implementation by the programmer is very important for the speed of the system itself. For proper operation of the system, at least the following server requirements must be met:

Operating system:

Linux x86, x86-64

WWW Servers:

Apache 1.3.x

Apache 2.0.x

Apache 2.2.x

Web browsers:

Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 or newer

Mozilla Firefox 3.5 or newer

Apple Safari 5 or newer only on Apple computers

Google Chrome 7 or newer

Adobe Flash plug-in needs to be installed

PHP compatibility:

5.2.13+

Required extensions:

PDO_MySQL simplexml mcrypt hash GD DOM iconv curl SOAP (in case of API) Safe_mode off Memory_limit no less than 256Mb (preferably 512MB)

MySQL:

4.1.20 or newer InnoDB
